Position Summary

Reporting to and working closely with the Vice President for Business Development and Strategy and the College’s Board of Trustees, the Chief Development Officer is a member of the College’s senior management team and is responsible for all fundraising, development and advancement activities, including development communications and alumni relations. The Chief Development Officer will provide strategic direction and lead and manage administration of all aspects of Institutional Advancement.

 The Chief Development Officer will help to identify, expand and build relationships and partnerships with potential donor constituencies, including friends, new friends, corporations and foundations. The Officer will focus her/his time on identifying new higher-level annual fund and major donors from individuals and also build a corporate funding program. The Officer will manage the Institutional Advancement team in foundation relations and annual fund/alumni relations and look to grow the team to ensure all funding opportunities can be pursued.

The Chief Development Officer will serve as senior fundraiser for institution-wide targeted initiatives and will work closely with the senior leaders, trustees, faculty and administrators to develop key fundraising strategies and activities. The Officer will staff the Board Advancement Committee and serve as liaison to the College’s Board of Trustees.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute comprehensive development strategies for all current and potential constituencies. Continually refine and elevate the case for support of the College’s overall and specific strategic and funding priorities. 
  • Craft and execute annual and multi-year development goals alongside the CFO, ensuring financial and strategic alignment. Monitor and report on development program progress
  • Lead major gift fundraising and donor cultivation. Partner with the President and members of the Board of Trustees on fundraising initiatives, including advising on individual strategies to solicit major donors. Secure $10k major gifts through research and cultivation of high-potential prospects. Identify and secure prospective donors to build a robust portfolio of individuals
  • Oversee Advancement Program staff, goals, metrics and infrastructure
  • Build and manage a corporate funding program to support the College’s workforce development and DEI initiatives
  • Develop action plans and briefing materials to support the President, Trustees, and other institutional leaders in meetings with donors and prospects
  • Work with Marketing and Communications to develop and implement a strategic, integrated Advancement Communications plan
  • Collaborate with faculty and administrators to advance the College’s internal culture of philanthropy
  • Work with staff and support the Board Advancement Committee 

Qualifications:

  • 10 years of successful professional fundraising experience, including direct and successful major gifts experience
  • Ability to engage a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships
  • Strong organizational and management skills 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills 
  • Ability to thrive in dynamic settings, leveraging initiative and flexibility to fuel team success
  • Minimum BA or BS degree; advanced degree preferred
